Among the many museums in Como, the Silk Museum (Museo Didattico della Seta) stands out as a tribute to the city’s long-standing silk tradition.
Como has in fact been a global hub for silk production for centuries, known for its exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality textiles.
The museum was inaugurated in 1990 by the Fondazione Museo della Seta to preserve and showcase this rich heritage.
Inside, visitors can explore the entire silk-making process, from the cultivation of silkworms to weaving and printing.
The collection includes historic machinery, looms, fabrics, and tools, offering a fascinating journey through the evolution of Como’s textile industry.

📍 Como Silk Museum is located in Via Castelnuovo 9, near the Como Borghi train station in the city of Como.
The museum’s proximity to train stations allows you to easily reach it by train from Milan and its airports. You can reach Como Nord Borghi or Como San Giovanni and take a short bus ride or walk to the museum.
From the nearest towns, you can get the C10 or C30 bus to the city center and then the ASF Line 7 and get off at the San Martino/Università stop.
